Song of the Day:
Pirate Song by Alestorm
I'm not a huge heavy metal person, but this band rocks! It's seriously metal pirate music. My friend told me about it, and it's hilarious. If you're in for some odd music, and like pirates, I definitely recommended it.
Quote of the Day:
"Denial ain't just a river in Egypt." -Mark Twain
I've always loved this quote. I think it really embodies Mark Twain's humor. It's like he's speaking out to the world in this quote, calling out all those hypocrites. It's so great, because it's completely true.
Most Interesting People of the Day:
Those guys sitting next to me in the computer lab.
Yes, I can hear you talking about baseball, and some other "manly" things, but really? Did you have to call that one girl an ass? I believe the correct terminology for a girl would be "bitch". I have no idea, but that kind of bothered me, at least make the insult in correct gender context. That's all I have to say about that!
This is the first night that I've had to use caffeine/ energy drinks to keep me awake. I can feel that it's already going to be a long night here in the lab. it's been a long day, that's for sure. Getting up early didn't help too much either. i hate waking up earlier than I have to, even if it is only an hour. I also hate having to commute! School and work is getting kind of overwhelming at this point in time. Midterms are next week, and I'm still looking for another job to replace my other one. Everyone in my family is getting sick, and having to live in close quarters with a bunch of sick people is kind of unnerving when I can't afford to get sick. I've got my handy dandy redbull with me right now, though, and this blog. I'm staying awake and living the dream!
This shall be the account of my eventful times as working on campus as a lab attendant, where I try to find things to fill my time through the wee hours of my night shifts. Over the next couple of months, I have a feeling it's going to be a crazy ride!

Time Keeps on Ticking into the Future
Song of the Day:
Sail by AWOLNATION
This is a new alternative band that I've recently discovered. Their music has a techno, sort of rougher feel to it. But this song is actually quite different that what I'm used to, and it's rather refreshing to hear something new.
Quote of the Day:
"Time is money." -Benjamin Franklin
Isn't that America's opinion today? That essentially wasting your time, is wasting your money? I'm not quite sure about that. Because isn't your life more important than money? I would think so! There are probably many cases in many jobs where wasting time is wasting money. But in the whole aspect of day to day life, I don't it is that way.
Most Interesting Person of the Day:
The kid that I gave $2 for his bus fare and wanted to give me a knife in exchange.
I appreciated the offer, but I'm not in the need of a knife anytime soon. I was happy to give you the money, but there was no reason for you to give me anything in return. i simply saw that you needed the money, you seemed honest about your intentions, and I had the money. Nope, didn't need to be offered a knife.
It seems that all of my professors have decided to teach me the same thing...in every one of my classes. There's only so many times you can learn mean, median, and mode before you want to question your sanity. And I seriously have no idea what I was thinking signing up for hip hop...bad idea! I am not a dancer. But tennis? Yes, that was a good decision. It's been a long day, and I can already tell that this week is going to go by fast. Don't you hate it when you have to plan your weeks, a week or even two in advance? I know I do. It's so much to remember! Well, I've got about six hours left until I can leave this place!

The Hours Pass On By...
Song of the Day:
Whip My Hair by Willow
This song is pretty popular. My Hip Hop teacher played it for our routine today and I had it stuck in my head the rest of the day! It's such a fun song to dance to, especially hip hop. Definitely recommend for any of you out there addicted to hip hop music or the dancing.
Quote of the Day:
"I think; therefore I am." -Rene Descartes
I just recently had to read a chapter from a book called "Descartes Bones" for one of my classes, and I found Descartes absolutely interesting. Think is one of his quotes that founded his philosophy of human reasoning.
Most Interesting Person of the Day:
That one guy that came into the lab for 10 minutes.
I know I've seen you somewhere before. I'm pretty sure it was at orientation. And my mom was telling me about you. Yeah, that's right! You moved here from Japan to go to school because it's cheaper here than over their. Your dad works for FedEx or somewhere, and you used to live in Portland. I don't know if you knew me or not, but you kept staring at me...I didn't really mind though, because you sure are hot! maybe you'll come visit me some other time though.
Today, went by pretty fast. It feels like Monday, which is good in a way because it isn't. I didn't feel like going to my Stats class so I skipped with one of my friends. Yeah, bad, I know, but I've never skipped before and I just was not focusing today. Got a nap in between classes, had a good work out, and now I'm here. In this computer lab, with tons of other people, surprisingly at this hour, and the time is hardly even ticking by. I've got a busy rest of the week ahead of me though, and I'm excited! What I'm not excited for? To have to be here for another 5 and a half hours still...

A White Blank Page and a Swelling Rage
Song of the Day:
Winter Winds by Mumford & Sons
I've been listening to this band for a while now, but this song just never gets old! I think it's the instruments that make it so great. Especially the trumpet solo, and it's folky up tempo. It makes me want to get up and start singing and dancing along to it. I can tell the band is very passionate about their music.
Quote of the Day:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
And that is exactly what MLK began, and in the end achieved. That's why we dedicated this day (or yesterday, actually), to you.
Most Interesting People of the Day:
Any of the people on Jersey Shore.
I hate this show. Absolutely hate it. But since I was home all day long, and my brother and sister took control over the TV, we ended up watching Jersey Shore. All. Day. Long. Obviously, they love it. I just can't seem to get into the tanning, or the constant hooking up, or the way they act. I have nothing against them, they're cool people and all, I just don't understand what's so fascinating about them...GTL, DTF, Shirt before the shirt, smoosh room...all of this stupid lingo! Instead of holding my attention, it just disturbs me.
Today there was no school due to MLK day. Yay! So, I got to sleep in and all that jazz, unfortunately having to come into work at midnight still. Oh well, at least I got to chill today and wasn't running from class to class. I really like this night shift job, but what I don't like is my other job. So, it's back to filling out job apps for a while, and hopefully I'll get lucky sooner than later. Another sort of sucky thing that happened to me this last weekend was that my phone drowned. It was totally unexpected. I was putting on my shin guards before my league soccer game, went to grab my socks, and found my bag soaking wet. My water bottle had exploded inside of it, thus drowning my phone. So, I'm too busy this week so I have to use this old ass phone my mom had until Thursday. It's almost 3, only 4 hours to go! I know I'll survive tonight because I got a slurpee before work! Yay!

Beef Shawarma: Yummy in my Tummy
Song of the Day:
My Body by Young the Giant
This song is one of the free downloads on iTunes right now. I've liked it ever since I heard it on the local alternative radio station, but I just haven't found the time to buy it. And then, there it was, all free for me last night. What a nice surprise. And now it's been on repeat all day on my iPod. I just can't get enough.
Quote of the Day:
| “If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean, and told the nearest land was a thousand miles away, I'd still swim. And I'd despise the one who gave up.” -Abraham Maslow You know, I completely agree. I'd rather die of exhaustion trying to swim my way back to land, than be eaten by a shark because I was just bobbing there in the water like a sitting duck. It makes total sense! |
Most Interesting Person of the Day:
Those two guys in my hip hop class.
I just know that the reason they're there isn't to gain a better understanding of hip hop dancing. Yes, you gigolos, I'm onto you. You have no grasp whatsoever of the routine, and you're looking around at all the girls the whole time. It's rather hilarious. I actually did laugh when I saw you two in class. Good luck on your women hunting, I don't think you're going to find any in my class though.
The hardest part of my day? Waking up. Not because I was too tired, or just didn't want to go to school, but because I was in the middle of a really cool dream and I want to see what would happen next. Don't you hate when that happens? Well, I know I do. I had to go through the day without my buddy though. It was rather odd, but I went to this delicious Lebanese place down the street, that kind of made my day. I'm much more tired than usual tonight, so I hope I don't fade, maybe i'll go get some coffee on my break. That sounds nice. A real pick me up. Around 7 hours to go...let's do this!

I Love My Ducks
Song of the Day:
What You Know by Two Door Cinema Club
This is a great new band that I've discovered over the course of a year, and it's become one of my favorites. This song always puts me in a good mood with it's upbeat tempo, and fun lyrics. It's also a great workout song for those interested.
Quote of the Day:
"The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty; not knowing what comes next." -Ursula K. LeGuin
I find myself wondering everyday what is to happen next. Where will I be a year from now? It's rather disconcerting, but calming as well. I doesn't matter what will occur. I know that I can delight in the uncertainty of what tomorrow holds for me, it's what makes life exciting!
Most Interesting Person of the Day:
The kid that sits in front of me in my stats class.
I know you mean well, but dude, your laugh is SO ANNOYING! And please stop interrupting the teacher to ask a question that it seems everyone but you knows the answer to. I think i just might record you laugh to show the world what I'm talking about. I'm extremely tempted to.
So, it's almost 1am. Today was rather out of sorts. What I always do enjoy in the morning is meeting foreigners on Max. They always seem to congregate to me, not that I mind. But I was forced to miss the National Championship that my dear Ducks were in. I heard through the grapevine that they lost...that pissed me off. I still love my ducks though! My tennis class was cancelled, so I decided to pay a visit to the rec center. Do you know how hard it is to find a place to sleep on campus? Well, it's very hard if you'd like to know. For future reference maybe. Ta-ta for now!

How To: Survive The Night Shift
Song of the Day: It's All About Him by Auburn
This song was stuck in my head all day long. It's got such a catchy tune, and I find myself humming it at this very moment. Curse you, Auburn for singing such a hummable song.
Quote of the Day: "In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." -Carl Sagan
I actually was a quote from this guy earlier today, but decided to post this one because it makes absolutely NO SENSE to me. What do making apple pies and inventing the universe have to do with each other? Seriously? And is it even possible to invent the universe? I think not, Carl Sagan. I think not...
Most interesting person of the day:
My Freshman Inquiry teacher.
You can really tell he gets into his lectures when he starts to say "All Right?" after each sentence. I give the man credit for loving science and all, but when I start to tally up the "All Right's?" to over 70 times, in only half the class time, then it's really funny and starts to make my day when other students join in with my counting. It definitely gives us something to laugh about.
It's only 12:30am, I've still got over 6 hours to go, but the time is going by fast. Unfortunately, I left my work clothes at home for my other job, so once I get off at 7am, I have to take the MAX back to the mall (where my other job is at), drive back home to get them, go to the local craft store to get a shirt for the soccer team that I'm on, drive back to the mall, where I have to do all of this before 9:30am where I have to open the store. All of this has to be done on maybe an hours nap...can I do it? Oh yes, I can, and I will!
